Core cover, 1 unit (MetLife EverydayProtect)

Personal accident cover is a simple, affordable way to soften the financial blow of an accident. You pay a small monthly premium and, if you are injured, end up in hospital or worse, you receive a tax-free cash lump sum to spend however you need, whether that is covering bills while you recover, paying for help at home or just taking the pressure off. The product we arrange is MetLife EverydayProtect, provided by the insurer MetLife. Albion Financial Advice is an independent, FCA-regulated intermediary, so our role is to help you choose the right level of cover and arrange the policy for you. There are no medical questions to take it out, and our advice is fee-free because we are paid by the insurer, not by you.

    What it covers

Core Cover is always included and pays a set cash amount for a long list of injuries and events. You can also add two optional extras for extra peace of mind.

    Broken bones cash

A cash payment if you break a bone in an accident, with a larger amount for major bones such as an arm, leg, hip or wrist and a smaller amount for minor breaks. There are around twenty listed injuries in total.

    Hospital stay cash, per day

A daily cash amount for every full 24 hours you spend in a UK hospital after an accident. After you have held the policy for 12 months it also pays for hospital stays due to sickness and pregnancy-related complications.

    Accidental death benefit

A tax-free lump sum paid to your loved ones if you die as a result of an accident, helping to ease the financial shock at the hardest possible time.

    Total permanent disablement

The largest single benefit under the plan, paid if an accident leaves you totally and permanently disabled and unable to work, so you have a cash cushion to adapt to a very different future.

    Permanent injuries

Set cash amounts for serious permanent injuries from an accident, for example the permanent loss of sight in both eyes, the loss of a hand or a foot, or third-degree burns over a large area of the body.

    Child Cover (optional add-on)

Extends cover to your children for the same kinds of events, except non-accidental death, and adds a children's cancer benefit. You can add it from just a couple of pounds a month per unit.

    Active Lifestyle Cover (optional add-on)

For the policyholder, this pays out for certain sports injuries each year, such as one dislocation and one tendon rupture or ligament tear, which standard accident benefits do not usually include.

    How it works

    1

    Choose your level of cover

You pick from 1 to 5 units, and you can add Child Cover and Active Lifestyle Cover if you want them. More units mean proportionally bigger payouts and a higher premium. There are no medical questions to answer.

    2

You have an accident or hospital stay

Life happens. You break a bone, spend a night or more in a UK hospital, or suffer a more serious injury covered by the plan.

    3

    You make a claim

You let MetLife know what has happened and provide the supporting details. The claims process is designed to be straightforward, and you can claim for more than one injury over the life of the policy.

    4

You are paid a tax-free cash lump sum

MetLife pays your benefit as a cash lump sum, free of UK income tax and capital gains tax, for you to use however you need. For most events the policy then simply continues.

    The key rules to know

You can take EverydayProtect out aged 18 to under 65 and you must be a UK resident. Core Cover benefits reduce by 50% from age 70, and the policy ends at age 75. Accident cover starts from day 1, but hospital stays due to sickness and pregnancy-related complications are only covered after you have held the policy for 12 months. You have a 30-day cooling-off period to cancel for a full refund if you have not claimed.

    Why people like this cover

The price depends only on the number of units and the add-ons you choose, not on your age, your health or your job.
Your premium does not rise just because you make a claim or because you get older.
No medical questions and no medical underwriting to take the policy out.
Cash is paid directly to you, tax-free, to spend on whatever matters most while you recover.
You can claim more than once, and for most events the policy carries on afterwards.
Whole-of-market, impartial and fee-free advice. We are paid by the insurer, not by you, and Polish-speaking advisers are available if that is easier.

    Extra services included

On top of the insurance, EverydayProtect comes with a set of everyday health and wellbeing services for you and your household, at no extra cost.

    24/7 virtual GP (GP24)

Speak to a GP by video or phone for appointments, advice, private prescriptions, referrals and fit notes, without waiting weeks for an appointment.

    Second medical opinion

If you receive a worrying diagnosis, you can get an expert second medical opinion to help you feel confident about your treatment options.

    Virtual physiotherapy

Online physiotherapy sessions to help you assess, manage and recover from muscle, joint and movement problems from the comfort of home.

    Wellbeing support

Access to confidential counselling, nurses and practical information on health, money and legal matters, available around the clock when you need someone to talk to.

These value-added services are provided by third parties, are not part of the insurance contract and can be changed or withdrawn at any time.

    Protection that pays out

Insurers pay the overwhelming majority of protection claims. The most common reason a claim is declined is information left off the application, which is exactly what good advice helps you avoid.
